Luis Miranda is Chairman of CORO and Centre for Civil Society. He is Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley Infrastructure and Advisor to the Nadathur Group. Luis has been involved in setting up 2 companies – HDFC Bank and IDFC Private Equity. Luis spends his time these days connecting the dots, using his network to help the organisations he is connected with. He is a member of the Global Advisory Board of Chicago Booth and writes a blog for Forbes India. Luis received an MBA from the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Dr Vivek Bhaktaram, MD
Born on in Edinburgh Scotland, Vivek had his early education at St Joseph’s Boys High School, Bangalore. He earned his MBBS degree in 1985 from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal before completing his MD in General Internal Medicine in 1988. He served as a lecturer in Cardiology and Intensive Care at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore from 1989 to 1993.
In 1993, Vivek moved to the US and did a residency in Internal Medicine at University of Oklahoma Health Centre before completing with a Cardiology fellowship in 1999. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology and now practices in Oklahoma Heart Hospital as an interventional cardiologist.
Dr Bhaktaram has been deeply involved with the activities of Sunbird Trust. He was a good sportsman and an accomplished tennis player. He is married with three children and enjoys gardening as a hobby.
Dr Benjamine Khiangte, MD
An alumnus of the Sunbird initiative prior to its formal launch, Dr Ben graduated from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha. Completing his post-graduation in Internal Medicine from the same college, he joined Nazareth Hospital, Shillong where he practiced as a consultant Physician, Geriatrician and Diabetologist. In 2016, he secured admission to the super speciality DNB in Gastroenterology at Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Thiruvananthapuram and is currently attending this course.
On being employed, Dr Ben reached out to underprivileged youth from his own state Mizoram, financially helping them pursue their studies. As a distinguished alumnus of the Sunbird initiative, he is eminently qualified to advise the organisation on its various schemes and shaping its future.
Hailing from the remote and underdeveloped Marpara area of Mizoram, Dilip is a member of the Chakma tribe. In 2007, Dilip assisted by Team Sunbird to finance his LLB at the prestigious National Law School University of India (NLSUI) at Bangalore.
In Feb 2010, Dilip secured an internship with a human rights organization ‘Geneva for Human Rights’ in Switzerland. During this internship, he worked on various thematic and country specific issues of human rights. In addition, he attended the Universal Periodic Review Working Group at the UN office and later participated in the 13th UN Human Rights Council Session.
Keen to join the Indian Administrative Services, Dilip, now a fully qualified lawyer, is preparing for his Civil Service Examinations. He is determined to work for the upliftment of his marginalized community. As a distinguished alumnus, Dilip will guide Sunbird Trust on legal matters where necessary.
