FAQ's
What is Sunbird Trust?
Where does Sunbird work?
Sunbird works in the remote and rural parts of conflict affected states in Northeast India. Currently Sunbird is providing physical or financial access to education largely in Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and in few parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim. Overall, we have created 34 Schools and Hostel and sponsored the education of 10,000 children in the aforementioned NE states.
How do I know my contribution is utilized correctly for its intended purpose? Is any audit of Sunbird’s accounts carried out?
At Sunbird, we prioritize the dignity and privacy of our beneficiaries by not disclosing their identities to donors without their explicit consent. All our financial reports are available on our website, and we encourage donors to visit our schools, either virtually or in person, to gain a deeper understanding of our work. Donors also have the option to choose whether or not to reveal their own identities.
We adhere to the highest standards of accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing practices. The audited financial statement for the previous year is available upon request. Sunbird remains fully accountable to all its stakeholders—donors, the local community, beneficiaries, and the Government—by ensuring the highest level of transparency in all our transactions.
Our current auditors, Sridhar and Brito, are based in Bangalore.
Is there any specific age for a child to be sponsored?
You are free to exercise your preference of age and sex of the child (provided you prefer a female child). Most sponsored children are in the age group of 5 to 16.
How does Sunbird ensure that contributions of donors are not used for wrong purposes by the partner school?
Sunbird insists on receipts in the name of the child from the school to avoid malpractice. Sunbird also considers any attempt to interfere in the culture and religion of a child is a violation of the rights and dignity of the child and his or her family. Principals of all schools sign an undertaking that misusing the sponsorship to interfere in the culture or religion of the child would result in cancelling the partnership with Sunbird.
How many children can I sponsor?
Donors can choose to support as many children as they wish. However, we recommend focusing on supporting a child over a longer period rather than spreading support across multiple children. This approach ensures a more sustainable and lasting impact on the child’s life.
What are ways in which I can make my payment?
